The Coaching Series 1-3

Improving your Performance and Influence

The topics listed below are common themes I’ve used to help previous clients. I will develop a program based around you goals and challenges so we meet your objective.

Series One - How to Succeed In Your Role

Series One themes are focused on those in a new position, people feeling stuck in their role and those wishing to progress from a subject matter expert to a manager role. A lot of your success depends on the support system around you and your ability to develop yourself while managing your workload. It can be frustrating at times as you feel that all your efforts go unnoticed and you’re appraised as, “can do better” or “just average”. People start to feel that their skills are under-utilised and that opportunities in their organisation are limited. I have developed themes based around succeeding in your role and enhancing your abilities to help you secure a promotion or new opportunity.

  • How to shine in your role and spotlight yourself for promotion.
  • How to capitalise on your strengths and unlock your diversity.
  • Courage and failure, these are 50% of your journey. How do you manage these?
  • How to be an effective team member. Learning to speak up and say no.
  • How do I achieve my goals and influence the unpredictable boss?
  • Why is self-management important to your success?
  • Is your next step a managerial role and what skills should you start building?

About the Sessions

The short engaging coaching sessions are accompanied by follow up progression sessions. The purpose of the progression sessions are to support you on the implementation of your skills. Deploying the knowledge you’ve gained might have some challenges in your environment. I will use my experiences to help you overcome barriers and give you the motivation to succeed.

The mentoring experience is incredibly important in these sessions. The culture and characters are different in every working environment, so just applying knowledge might only be part of your answer. Understanding, other people’s behaviour and motivations, along with your own, will improve your impact.

Series Two - Managing Functions and People

Series Two themes are focused on those new to management positions or those wanting to refine their management style & influence. Most managers I’ve worked with spend long hours at work. Attending numerous meetings, while trying to deliver multiple objectives through the team, is incredibly stretching. Even when you do find time to spend with the team, you might find yourself constantly micromanaging and forever chasing your team for results. This can become tiring, frustrating and unrewarding. During my years of working at this level, I realised the most important asset you have is your team. Motivating and supporting each member to utilise their strengths. Guiding, supporting & empowering, will create a team of high impact individuals. Series Two will help you deliver superior results as one high performing function, develop a strong team of individuals and give yourself the bandwidth to influence key stakeholders.

  • Improving the teams performance by adopting a coaching style.
  • Spending your time effectively between the team and critical stakeholders.
  • Influencing Leadership teams and becoming the “Must Have” function.
  • The pitfalls of trying to over impress and maximising your airtime.
  • Developing a growth mindset and leading change.
  • A project role nomination, poison chalice or chance to shine?

About the Sessions

Everyone’s background, experience and skillsets are different. Your company culture, personalities in your team and relationship with your peers, will need to be considered when you develop your goal-based action plan. Therefore, it is more effective to assess your situation and develop tailor made sessions that will help your plan succeed in your environment. Understanding and developing your management style will be key in any session.

The progression sessions will be aligned to the deployment of your new techniques. The Power of Three disciplines combines effectively in these sessions from understanding your self- awareness, behaviours & influence, and how you can reinvent yourself at work.

Series Three – Beyond the Finance Function

Series Three has been developed to help Finance people become more influential so they can maximise their skills and impact the broader business. There is so much influence that Finance people can offer an organisation. Ensuring that you maximise opportunities to contribute more than your financial skills in any business, will help you influence decision making and become known as a trusted business advisor. Combining your in-depth knowledge of the Financial levers & metrics needed to drive sustainable profitable growth, with your unbiased view on the markets, competition internal capabilities and investment opportunities, will put you in an objective influencing position. I have developed a series of highly focused sessions around 4 areas to help you build a new and higher level of influence.

  • How do you influence teams in the commercial world and where can you really add value?
  • What knowledge do you need of the commercial world and what are the questions you need to ask?
  • How can you leverage your key Finance skills and become the insight guru?
  • How do you go from the bottom of the agenda, to the “A lister” that everyone wants at their meeting?
